Those who enroll in the Android Auto beta program and are running Android Auto beta version 8.6 will now be able to use Google’s latest iteration of Material Design, as well as a redesigned app UI that includes a dark mode. But since the release is currently limited to the Android Auto beta channel, those who haven’t signed up yet will have to wait for a wider release.
The Auto Mobile App includes Material Design 3 in the Connect, Start and Display menus, with round button overlays and color accents that match the rest of the UI. The old header image has been removed and the settings menu has been reworked.
This new design offers users a more modern experience similar to what other Google apps offer. All options are organized and grouped together to make navigation much easier. In addition, the application offers a dark mode according to your system preferences.
First reported in Android Auto beta 8.5, the new redesign is now fully functional in version 8.6. It may be included in the next stable update, but is not yet confirmed.
