Apple has introduced the second generation of the HomePod, its smart speaker strongly oriented toward music playback. On par with the relationship between Alexa and products in the Echo line, the HomePod is of course integrated with Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.

“It offers advanced computational audio for an extraordinary listening experience,” reads the release published by Apple. It is the second version of the larger model, the one presented in June 2017. Then there is the compact model, the HomePod Mini, which unlike the original HomePod arrived in Italy in 2021.

The second generation therefore marks the debut of the HomePod line in Italy. The first pre-orders will open on February 3rd.

Thanks to the popularity of HomePod mini, we have seen growing interest in even more powerful acoustic performance, possible in a larger HomePod. We are excited to bring the latest generation of HomePods to customers around the world

Apple claims to have worked to improve the sound quality, offering even richer and deeper bass, natural mids and crystal clear highs. It will be available in two colors: white and midnight . We find once again a backlit surface, with the LED that changes color and follows the rhythm of the music. The body of the speaker is instead covered in mesh fabric (100% recycled in the case of the ‘Midnight’ colour).

The heart of the new Apple HomePod is the S7 chip, so we find a high excursion woofer, a 20mm diaphragm, five tweeters in an array and beamforming around the base. The device is able to recognize the environment in which it is placed, adapting the sound calibration according to the characteristics of each room.
