U.S. jobless claims fall below expectations

Applications for unemployment benefits in the USA fell below expectations with 213,000.

Unemployment claims in the US came in at 213,000 in the week ending September 10, below expectations.

According to the seasonally adjusted data announced by the US Department of Labor, the number of applications, which was previously announced as 222 thousand for the previous week, was revised to 218 thousand.

Economists had predicted that applications for unemployment benefits would amount to 226,000​.

The four-week average of US jobless claims, considered a better indicator of US labor market trends, fell to 224,000.

The total number of people benefiting from unemployment benefits in the USA increased to 1.403 million in the week of September 3.
