Overwatch 2 victim of a DDos attack: what happened

The instant the Overwatch 2 servers went live, Blizzard suffered a series of hacker attacks to slow or stop the launch of its new shooter.

At first it was thought that causing difficulties in logging in, interrupting matches in the middle and giving error codes was the usual day one traffic that all big online games experience at launch. Blizzard also posted a tweet saying it was hard at work fixing the connection issues that were affecting Overwatch 2 .

An hour after the launch, however, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra tweeted that the cause of the slowdowns and errors were not overloaded servers but a DDos attack against the whole of Blizzard. A DDos attack is a type of hacker attack designed to overload the victim’s online systems with millions of fake login requests and shut them down.

“Unfortunately we are experiencing a large scale DDos attack on our servers. Our teams are working to solve and limit the damage – Ybarra wrote in the Tweet – This is the cause of the many disconnections reported ”. The Overwatch 2 game director (whom we interviewed exclusively for Italy) also tweeted about the progress he and his team were making to counter not one, but two large-scale DDos attacks.

“We are facing a second DDos attack but we are also making progress in dealing with server problems. We will continue to work all night, thanks for your patience and we will update you as soon as possible ”she writes.

Another reason for disconnection could be if you have associated the same phone number with multiple Blizzard accounts. To solve the problem, go to the settings of the account you want to play Overwatch 2 with and replace the repeated phone number with a unique one.

Here in Europe, as of this writing, the game is accessible so the team’s efforts have yielded results. To know what we think about the overwatch 2 rebirth, we recommend reading our review, you can find it here .
