The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection review leads us to discover the new editions of Uncharted 4 and Uncharted The Lost Legacy, both upgraded to their new version for PlayStation 5.

From PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 5 , with the aim of conquering the new generation as well: Nathan Drake had inaugurated the new course of Naughty Dog by telling Indiana Jones adventures with irreverence and irony, with the presumption of setting up an exciting tetralogy and compelling . Mission accomplished, so much so that now Sony has decided to propose the last chapter of the saga dedicated to the most famous and well-known treasure hunter of the Japanese flagship in a remastered version for PlayStation 5. Along with the Lost Legacy expansion, starring Chloe and Nadine, the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection thus arrives on the current generation after it was decided to eliminate the two previous versions available for PlayStation 4 from the store. Let’s analyze together if the operation made sense and if, above all, the production value of this edition deserves the selling price .

What the Drake Chest contains

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection , as mentioned, contains Uncharted 4 and Uncharted The Lost Legacy , both upgraded for PlayStation 5, at a price of 49.99 euros : there have been no content additions, so the two titles are the same as they are. were played on PlayStation 4 in 2016, deprived of multiplayer mode, not being the most active servers.

It will also be possible to recover the saves from PlayStation 4, for a New Game + or to embark on an adventure with a higher difficulty rate.

It must be specified that if you already have one of the two titles you can make a graphic and technical upgrade with a cost of just 10 euros, so you can get the entire Legacy of Thieves Collection : an optimal solution for to meet the players who supported Naughty Dog six years ago and who are now given the opportunity to repeat the adventure with a different graphic style. Among other things, it will also be possible to recover the saves from PlayStation 4, so as to be able to try a New Game + or embark on an adventure with a higher difficulty rate than previously.

It goes without saying that the key advice of our examination remains only one: in case you have already fleshed out both adventures properly, the expense of ten euros is justified only where you want to take away the whim of discovering which technical improvement has been made to Uncharted 4 ; alternatively, the purchase of the Collection is the prerogative of those who did not have the opportunity, in 2016, to launch headlong into what was Nathan Drake’s last adventure and, consequently, to arrive prepared for the exit at the cinema of the big screen adaptation of Uncharted, starring Tom Holland as Nath. This suggestion comes in the face of the fact that both titles have nothing more than they already had six years ago and that the graphical upgrade, from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, did not make us cry out for any kind of technical miracle.

The three steps of resolution

As is the custom of the productions that face the current generation in the guise of technical and graphic upgrades ( take for example Ghost of Tsushima , quite recent and always of Sony matrix), you will have the possibility to choose which rendering mode of the visual content is most suitable to your needs and those of your monitor. Let’s start with Fidelity , which is the first that is proposed in the menu and that will be available – as well as the other two – for both chapters: native resolution at 4K, with the aim of stabilizing the 30fps , so as to guarantee you a greater resolution by penalizing fluidity.

With Performance , on the other hand, you will have a sort of balance that will chase 60fps , to guarantee you excellent fluidity, taking a starting image that will be upscaled to 4K resolution : an element that you will not notice excessively, unless you want to. be extremely fussy. We conclude with the mode that we have decided to adopt for our entire run, namely the Performance + : frames at 120fps , which are accused a lot especially in the movement of the camera, and resolution at 1080p, to guarantee you a more than satisfactory result. Provided you have, it goes without saying, a monitor that is capable of supporting these specifications.

One element we would like you to consider is related to how much Uncharted 4 has already been able to push the PlayStation 4 hardware forward. Although several years have passed – the aforementioned six – Nathan Drake had already allowed us to admire breathtaking views and glimpses of nature that skilfully alternated between luxuriant vegetation and esoteric architecture, mixed with structures even closer to our culture.

So much the better had happened with Nadine and Chloe, who in their search for Ganesh’s fang had gone to sift through pristine India and overflowing with archaeological finds and ancient ruined structures: with the intention of being able to photograph as many glimpses as possible of what it is not only an adventure in search of a treasure, but also an all-round experience, Chloe herself ended up suggesting what to observe and how to do it.

India stands out before us

Having said that, the improvements that the Collection now makes available to us do not make us take the long-awaited and hoped-for leap forward, also thanks to being only at the beginning of this new generation. If, therefore, you decide to approach the game with the Fidelity mode, also relying on 30fps, you already know from the start that you will not have a sensational variation of the tactical set-up, although in the textures you will have the opportunity to notice more detail. The advice, ça va sans dire , is to rely on the Performance + mode, which will allow you to take advantage of all the improvements planned for this edition. The Lost Legacy in particular becomes spectacular at 60fps, especially in the aforementioned settings of India from an archaeological site: not only will the dynamism of all the actions benefit, but also the overall yield of what you will see.

It is clear that in the face of these improvements you cannot expect changes in terms of gameplay: Uncharted 4 , as well as its expansion, remains a product of six years ago, which presents some mechanics that end up being anachronistic, starting from the surreal climbing system. Attached to all of this, even the hand-to-hand combat, as much as you look for the spectacularity and the combos between Nadine and Chloe, ends up being quite out of place. If you are able to go beyond these aspects, you will find yourself in front of an excellent overall experience, enriched by the new features introduced by the arrival on PlayStation 5. Let’s start with the 3D audio, the uploads practically non-existent thanks to the console’s SSD, and the haptic feedback of the Dualsense: the latter in the role of Chloe will prove very useful, especially when you have recovered the jewel able to point out the treasures in the vicinity, excellent for completists and to test the controller.
