Added new features to WhatsApp Status: emoji reactions, link preview and voicemail sharing
Meta announced that new features have been added to WhatsApp Status in a post it shared today. Added features include emoji reactions, custom audience selector, preview for link sharing, profile rings for new Status notification, and audio recording sharing. With this new update, it is possible to say that WhatsApp Status is slowly turning into Instagram Stories.
With the Custom audience selector, which resembles the selection of close friends we see on Instagram, you can choose to whom the Status you share will be shown. You can specify people who are among your connections but do not want them to see your status. Or if you want to share with a small group, you can choose the “Share only with” option.
Audio recording sharing, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the audio Tweets we’ve seen on Twitter before. Users can share voice messages that are up to 30 seconds long via Status.
Another feature that is familiar from Instagram is the emoji reactions left on the Status. Users can leave emoji reactions on their connections’ Status. The emojis that can be dropped are as follows:
Finally, when you share a link in Status, you will see a preview of the link, just like sending a message. Thus, users will be able to learn about its content before clicking the link.
The profile rings feature for new Status notification, on the other hand, makes the rings around users’ profiles visible in green in the new status share. This feature may also be familiar to you from Instagram.
All these features will be gradually rolled out to users around the world in the coming weeks.
